I'm Very Honored to Receive the Liebster Award and My Nominees Are:

I think everyone likes or actually loves receiving awards.  I recently received my first award as a travel blog writer.  It was very much an honor and certainly helped motivate me to keep blogging!   I am extremely grateful and want to say a big thank you to Anda who blogs at:  Travel Notes and Beyond  for nominating me for the Liebster Award! I’m truly honored to receive it.

What is a Liebster Award, you may ask? Well, I didn’t know either. From all I’ve been able to gather, the Liebster Blog Award originated in Germany and is given to bloggers by bloggers. Bestowing the Liebster is the way of letting a blogger know that he/she is liked, preferred, or favorited above others. In fact the meaning of the German word itself (Liebster) seems to indicate that.

The original rules were very  simple:  thank and link back to the blogger who gave you the award, place the Liebster Blog image on your blog and nominate 3-5 other bloggers with less than 3,000 readers. But like most things today, rules became more complicated. While the three original rules still apply, now you also have to answer the questions the tagger has asked,  nominate 5 – 7 more blogs who have less than 200 followers and let them know they’ve been nominated, and create a new list of 7 questions for your own nominees. The rules vary slightly from blog to blog and from year to year.

Here are my responses to Anda's questions:

1. What was the biggest challenge that you faced as a blogger?
I was hesitant to get back into blogging after I remember Facebook became so popular in 2008 - 2009.  I have an animal rescue blog titled: Michelle Menagerie  that I hadn't written much on in a while.  I wanted to begin blogging again, but doubted whether it made sense when people do most of their reading and socializing on Facebook, twitter, Google Plus, etc.
2. Do you ever feel the need to take a break from writing/posting, but worry that you’ll disappoint your followers?
I do feel the need to take a break and have no choice to take a break when I travel places where there is no internet.  I just explain that I will be gone and an approximate date when they can expect me to post again.  That said, one of my major goals as a blogger is to post more often.
3. How many hours a day do you spend on your blog (including the social media)?
I spend way too much time on social media.  This is an area I need to work on changing.  If I were to spend half the time I spend socializing on Facebook working on my blog, I would have twice as many posts written.
4. What inspires you to write?
I love traveling and taking photos.  Blogging inspires me to travel more and take more photos.  When I travel I see things that I want to tell my family, friends, and the world in general about and blogging allows me to share them.
5. If no one seemed to be reading your posts, would you still keep writing?
Yes!  The first few months I was blogging I could tell only a few VERY good friends stopped by my blog from Typepad's dashboard.  I knew going into blogging that finding readers was going to be a very difficult if not impossible chore.
6. What is your goal for your blog?
More than anything I want to create a journal of my travels to help keep the memories alive.  I also want to share my experiences with others.  I have also loved connecting with like minded people and hearing about ther travel experiences as well.
7. What was your most memorable trip?
My trip to Antarctica at the beginning of 2013 was definitely my most memorable.  It was so different than anything I've ever seen and or experienced.  I absolutely loved the untouched natural beauty of the white continent!
