Happy Mother's Day to ALL Mother's Around the World!

Elephant-baby-278523_1280I am writing this post in honor of all mothers and especially those that are often overlooked on Mother's Day each year.  If you have pets you are a mother they could not survive without you!  I also wanted to share the love shown by some of the animal mothers' for their babies that I've seen around the world. The top photo is of an elephant mother with her baby that I saw in Tanzania at the Serengeti National Park.

My husband and I have also taken in several stray pregnant cats.  We found homes for all of the babies and mothers including the seven orange ones in the second photo down.  We actually kept the mothers - Princess (the black cat) and Peaches (orange cat) for ourselves.

Malta, Gozo, the Azure Window, and a Fish Pedicure

Malta1Above is the Azure Window in Gozo - MUCH bigger than I imagined it would be!

Let me start this post by saying that in the future I am going to make an effort to write shorter and more frequent posts.  This is another post that I am writing from memory of my trip to Malta last summer.  I spent seven days on this beautiful Mediterranean island.  I visited a small nearby island named Gozo.   I also got a fish pedicure for the first time. I really enjoyed my time there.

One of the things that inspired me to visit Malta was the architecture.  It has a very old European look to it.  The beaches are rocky, but beautiful and known for great snorkeling.  The island is known to  be very safe and the people are very friendly.  It is not a terribly expensive place to visit in comparison to some of the places I have visited in Europe, but I had just spent a week in Paris before my visit to Malta so that might have affected my perception!

The nightlife in Malta looked to be very good!  It definitely is a place I would've enjoyed visiting when I was younger.  On my last day there I had to get up at 5 AM.  I walked across the street to get a cup of coffee and people were still out dancing and partying at the bars and restaurants.

Below is a photo of St. Julian's Bay on Malta:

Malta1Popay Village was stunning and I would love to see it again!

Malta5Malta is part of anarchipelago that consists of three islands which are Malta, Gozo, and Comino.  The three islands have a total population of over 400,000 people. Malta is the largest island.
Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural and is known for and subsists on fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture.

Here are some typical beach scenes on Malta:

My first "fish pedicure".  It doesn't hurt.  It just tickles and is not harmful to the fish.  You must wash your feet first. Maltafish1

Malta012Here I am with a girl named Nicole from Switzerland.  She was traveling alone as well.  We seemed to have a lot in common being really independent people.

When I started this blog a little more than 3 months ago, it was basically just to chronicle my travels.  I planned to only use photos that were taken by yours truly.  I still plan to use only my own photos EXCEPT when I am planning to travel to a new place and want advice on whether I should go and or what I should do when I get there - IF I go.

Here is a photo of a place which I think is my dream vacation.  I wanted to reach out and ask my audience if they have been to this supposed island paradise, heaven on Earth, or most beautiful place in the world?  I got this photo from Pixabay and the photographer is "WikiImages".  You can see 2 photos of Bora Bora at this web address:  http://pixabay.com/en/photos/?q=bora+bora&order=best&image_type=&cat=&orientation=

Pixabay is very selective of the images they make available for use so you can be assured that you will probably find some nice images to use for whatever purpose you need them for and not be concerned about a copyright violation :)  To view more specific information about using photos from Pixabay please see http://pixabay.com/en/service/faq/

If you've been to Bora Bora, please let me know what your thoughts are.   Basically, I want to know if it's worth the high price or is it all hype.  If you loved it what did you do for activities?   Thank you in advance :)

Part 2 and Final Explanation of Why I Named My Blog What I Did

"I don't think there's much point in bemoaning the state of the world unless there's some way you can think of to improve it. Otherwise, don't bother writing a book; go and find a tropical island and lie in the sun."

Peter Singer

As I was saying in my previous post I do not live on an island, but I have and do travel to many.  Here are some more photos of the islands I have traveled to including Cancun, Bermuda, Maui, Kauai, Malta, and Gozo.  I do NOT like public transportation and would rather walk literally hours than get on a bus or subway.  I feel like I get to see more that way plus get a little exercise :-)  The first two photos were taken in Cancun, Mexico.  I have visited there many, many times and love it.  There is definitely plenty to do, and every where you look is like a postcard!

The following two photos were taken in Bermuda.  I thought I had found paradise when I went there and can't wait to go back!

The following two photos were taken in Puerto Rico.  The first photo was taken at night during a thunder storm from my balcony.  It's not a great photo (out of focus, etc.), but was one of most popular photos on Panoramio.  Here is my account where you can see all of my photos:  http://www.panoramio.com/user/7406641

The following two photos are of Maui.  I have been to Maui two times and was fortunate enough to spend a month there for my advanced Yoga teacher trainingIsland33

The next two photos were also taken in Hawaii, but on the island of Kauai which is probably my personal favorite.  In the first photo, I'm hiking the Kalalui Trail which isn't easy AT ALL, but the views were spectacular.  The second photo was taken at a beautiful area on the island called Queen's Bath.Island17

The final two photos were taken on two tiny islands in the Mediterranean Sea named Malta and Gozo.  The first photo is of a famous rock structure named "the Azure Window" on Gozo.

Thanks so much for stopping.  I love to hear your comments and questions and please remember your e-mail address will not be published.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a nice week.  ]

Until next time ~ Michelle
