Why I Love Bermuda

I knew Bermuda would be nice, but I thought it is one of the most amazingly beautiful place I'd ever visited!  The people are so friendly as well. Needless to say I really enjoyed vacationing there!  I thought it would be my one and only trip there, but I thought I'd found paradise.

***I am so unhappy with these photos I took three years ago that I'm looking into going back to Bermuda to take some better ones as I write this post***

Here are a few photos that I'm afraid do not do justice to this lovely island.

The pink sand beaches are stunning!

The below photos are of a "blue lagoon" type of area that is part of Horseshoe Bay Beach in Bermuda.  My photos don't do it justice.  the sand is a peachy pink color and the water is bright aqua blue.  It is also the perfect temperature!
Horseshoe Bay Beach which is ranked in the top 10 in the world!

I received several e-mails and comments from people saying they were interested or planning a visit to Bermuda after my past posts.  Everyone we talked to while there said pretty much the same thing: "I think I've found paradise".  Many people said they had traveled to Thailand, Bali and other destinations much further away, but felt Bermuda was just as beautiful!

Bermuda has an affluent economy, with finance as its largest sector followed by tourism giving it the world's highest GDP per capita in 2005. It has a subtropcal climate.

Bermuda is a volcanic sea mountain that formed from the mid-Atlantic ridge approximately 100 million years ago.
I was VERY impressed with the hotel we stayed at called The Fairmont Southhampton pictured below.  Although you can walk to the beach, Most agreed that taking the 2 minute trolley like the one pictured below is for the best since it is so mountainous.  The trolley runs every 5-10 minutes so there is never a wait.  Even though this is a 4 and a half star hotel, they are always great deals. There are many restaurants on the property and the service was top notch!  We were told by a taxi driver that there are no hotels right on the beach except a few cottages.

Below is Front Street.  It is very clean and pretty I thought.  I wish I would have known that most of the stores close at 5:00 PM.  That might be a good thing since most of the stores looked very nice featuring names like Prada, Escada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton.

I love flowers and everywhere you look you see beautiful trees and plants like these:

Part 2 and Final Explanation of Why I Named My Blog What I Did

"I don't think there's much point in bemoaning the state of the world unless there's some way you can think of to improve it. Otherwise, don't bother writing a book; go and find a tropical island and lie in the sun."

Peter Singer

As I was saying in my previous post I do not live on an island, but I have and do travel to many.  Here are some more photos of the islands I have traveled to including Cancun, Bermuda, Maui, Kauai, Malta, and Gozo.  I do NOT like public transportation and would rather walk literally hours than get on a bus or subway.  I feel like I get to see more that way plus get a little exercise :-)  The first two photos were taken in Cancun, Mexico.  I have visited there many, many times and love it.  There is definitely plenty to do, and every where you look is like a postcard!

The following two photos were taken in Bermuda.  I thought I had found paradise when I went there and can't wait to go back!

The following two photos were taken in Puerto Rico.  The first photo was taken at night during a thunder storm from my balcony.  It's not a great photo (out of focus, etc.), but was one of most popular photos on Panoramio.  Here is my account where you can see all of my photos:  http://www.panoramio.com/user/7406641

The following two photos are of Maui.  I have been to Maui two times and was fortunate enough to spend a month there for my advanced Yoga teacher trainingIsland33

The next two photos were also taken in Hawaii, but on the island of Kauai which is probably my personal favorite.  In the first photo, I'm hiking the Kalalui Trail which isn't easy AT ALL, but the views were spectacular.  The second photo was taken at a beautiful area on the island called Queen's Bath.Island17

The final two photos were taken on two tiny islands in the Mediterranean Sea named Malta and Gozo.  The first photo is of a famous rock structure named "the Azure Window" on Gozo.

Why I Named This Blog What I Did

"Live with intention.  Walk to the edge.  Listen hard.  Practice wellness.  Play with abandon.  Laugh.  Choose with no regret. Continue to learn.  Appreciate your friends.  Do what you love.  Live as if this is all there is." Mary Anne Radmacher

I do live on the water in Florida that is not on an island, BUT it seems like I always end up visiting them.  In no way am I complaining or saying that is a bad thing.  There is really only one drawback and that is the cost of my flight is generally a little more since there is usually an extra connection from the mainland.  For example, when I traveled to Phuket, I had to stop in Bangkok first.  We own some timeshares and the island destinations tend to be available very frequently and I'm guessing the flight cost is part of the reason why.  I'm not saying the price is always higher, but it seems to often be the case. When I travel I do a lot of walking and hiking, generally 5-10 miles a day.  It's nothing for me to spend 8 hours out just wandering around exploring. people watching, and taking photos.  Here is a list of some of the islands I've traveled to and some photos of them:  I will add more photos of these islands in my next post

The final two photos were taken in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.  It is one of the natural wonders of the world and the 3 day cruise I went on was one of the best travel experiences I've had!  The second photo is of me jumping off the third floor of our small cruise ship into 60 foot deep jellyfish infested water.  The water was warm at least :-)
